Create a custom field (property)

Custom fields (sometimes called properties) let you store extra information about each subscriber — job title, region, plan tier, account manager, a renewal date, or anything else your audience data includes. Once a field exists, you can personalize an Edition with it and target Broadcasts to the right people.

Before you begin

  • Decide what you want to store and pick a clear, human-readable field name (for example, "Region" or "Plan tier").
  • Choose the field's data type — usually text, number, or date. Dates and numbers let you filter on ranges; text is best for labels and categories.
  • Confirm you have permission to manage audience settings for your account. (confirm the exact steps in your account)
  • Have a plan for how the field gets populated: manual entry, list import, a signup form, or your API/integration.

Steps

  1. Open your audience or subscriber settings and go to the area where subscriber fields are managed. (confirm the exact steps in your account)
  2. Choose to add a new field, then enter the display name.
  3. Select the data type (text, number, or date) that matches the values you'll store.
  4. Set any options such as whether the field is required or has a default value, then save.
  5. Populate the field — import a list that includes a matching column, edit subscribers directly, or map it from a signup form or your integration.

Result

The new field appears in your subscriber records and in the field picker, so you can insert it as a personalization token in an Edition and use it as a condition when targeting a Broadcast. Send yourself a test to confirm the value renders as expected.
