Customize Preference Center topics and options

The Preference Center is the page a subscriber lands on when they click a subscription or unsubscribe link. Curating the topics, lists, and profile fields shown there lets subscribers opt down to what they want instead of opting out entirely — which protects both your list size and your deliverability.

Before you begin

  • Author access to the Preference Center or subscription settings in your account.
  • The lists or topics you want to expose should already exist. Create or organize them first — see Manage audiences and lists.
  • Decide which profile fields (for example, name, region, or format preference) subscribers should be allowed to edit versus keep read-only.
  • Confirm whether a global unsubscribe option is required for your program; in most regions it is. (confirm the exact steps in your account)

Steps

  1. Open the Preference Center settings for your account or the relevant Folder.
  2. Add each list or topic you want subscribers to manage, and set a clear, subscriber-friendly display name and short description for each.
  3. Choose which profile fields appear, and mark each as editable or read-only.
  4. Set the display order so the most relevant topics appear first, and hide any internal-only lists.
  5. Keep a clearly labeled option to unsubscribe from all mailings so recipients always have a one-click exit.
  6. Adjust the confirmation message shown after a subscriber saves their choices, then save your changes. (confirm the exact steps in your account)

Result

Send yourself a test Broadcast, click through to the Preference Center, and verify that only the intended topics and fields appear, choices save correctly, and the changes are reflected on the subscriber's profile.
