Review bounced messages
A bounce is a message a subscriber's mail server refused to deliver. Reviewing bounces after a Broadcast tells you which addresses failed and why, so you can clean your list, protect your sender reputation, and improve future delivery.
Before you begin
- A Broadcast that has finished sending, so bounce data has been collected and processed. Bounces can continue to arrive for a short time after send.
- Permission to view reporting for the Folder that holds the Edition.
- A basic sense of the two bounce types: hard bounces (permanent failures such as an unknown or invalid address) and soft bounces (temporary failures such as a full mailbox or a server that is briefly unavailable).
Steps
- Open the reporting or delivery view for the Broadcast whose bounces you want to review. (confirm the exact steps in your account)
- Locate the bounce summary, which shows the total bounced count and usually a split between hard and soft bounces.
- Open the detailed bounce list to see individual addresses, each with a bounce category and the reason returned by the receiving server.
- Sort or filter to focus on hard bounces first — these are the addresses most likely to need action.
- Export the bounce list if you need to share it or reconcile it against your source system.
- Review whether repeatedly bouncing addresses were automatically added to your suppression list, so they are excluded from future Broadcasts.
Result
You can see exactly which subscribers did not receive the Broadcast and the reason each address failed. Hard-bounced addresses are identified for removal or suppression, and you have the data to keep your list clean.
